Could Medical Transcription Be The Right Career For You?
By Derrick Hanson
A lot of people believe the hype about getting into medical transcription and think it's going to be easy. After all, it is a good career move and you'll be making really good money.

I'm sure you've seen these types of messages where people selling correspondence courses telling you it's all easy and painless. But the big question is, can you really make a good living with medical transcription? What I want to do is get into the good and bad about the medical transcription industry and see if it's actually right for you or not.

Truth be told, medical transcription can be a rewarding career. The demand for medical transcriptionists are extremely high and it keeps growing. There are an abundance of jobs for anyone that wants to make medical transcription a career.

Because of the high demand in the industry, some people think they can get into it thinking they can make a career out if it without any work.

Making good money is a real possability, but it isn't all easy. There is some work involved.

The medical transcription industry comes with a few drawbacks. You do need training and continuing education to keep up with the advancements in the industry. This scares many people away from making it a career. If you're thinking about about it like "why isn't everybody getting into it if the demand is so high and supply of MT's are so low"?

Yes, this is why. It's very fullfilling and rewarding, but it's not easy.

It does take time to get a good handle on the medical terminolgy also. Somewhere around 6 months if you're a quick learner. There are treatments, conditions, procedures, drugs, etc. that you need to be aware of to be effective in the field.

With the always changing and advancing medical industry, it's a job in itself to overcome continuing education, which is imperative to medical transcription.

There are many mail order courses available and many MT's themselves indorse them. But it's always good to have the hands on approach to medical transcription with colleges and on the job training in your area. That's the best way to learn. You just can't get that with

a mail order course.

Mail order courses doesn't take the place of a human being showing you the basics, but it can be helpful.

MT is not for everybody, but if you really want to earn a good living with a high income career, this should be something that you should take a serious look at.
